Fibonacci Amsterdam: 243 rental apartments completed

Amsterdam 18 July 2023 – Wednesday 17 July saw the festive handover of Fibonacci, with the first two tenants symbolically receiving the key to their new apartments. Fibonacci consists of 49 social and 194 medium-rent rental apartments. The sustainable building houses some 350 young people. Together, they form a lively and connected residential community. Fibonacci shows that affordable and green living in the heart of Amsterdam with shared facilities is possible. This is what construction project developer VORM, real estate company Rockfield, housing corporation Stadgenoot and the municipality of Amsterdam are proving with this project.

Living, working and playing sports together in Fibonacci
In the development of Fibonacci, much attention was paid to the living environment of the future tenants. The location, functions and layout contribute to the formation of a residential community. For instance, the Cohesion Woonconcept has a communal living room, sports and laundry room and a community manager in the building. Tenants can also share things with each other, such as a hoover or printer.

Fibonacci Edvard

Edvard van Luijn from Rockfield: ‘Central to the development and realisation of Fibonacci was the living environment and the creation of a community. In addition to the sustainable apartments, the residential building features residential concept The Cohesion with various communal areas and the community manager organises events to strengthen the social aspect of tenants. Fibonacci fits perfectly into the current portfolio of Rockfield and its investors to realise affordable and high-quality housing with appropriate living concept for the target group Young Professionals. Since 1 July, the 350 enthusiastic tenants have been living, staying, working and playing sports together in Fibonacci. The cooperation and provision of facilities for tenants together with housing corporation Stadgenoot in one building is also unique. We haven’t done that before’

Egbert Dekker, Director of Property and Development at Stadgenoot: ‘Fibonacci is really a project to be proud of. It shows that we are there for everyone. So also for young starters looking for their first apartment. In addition, with these 49 extra apartments we are shortening the waiting list for a social rental home. I am very enthusiastic about the cohabitation form. It fits well with our desire for our tenants and their neighbours to feel connected and work together to create a pleasant place to live. I therefore wish the new tenants of Fibonacci the pleasure of living together.’

Building faster and more sustainable affordable apartments
The apartments are a high-quality addition to city district East. Living in Fibonacci means affordable and sustainable living. Almost all the apartments have an energy label of A+++. The building has its own heat and cold storage system to which the apartments are connected. In addition, the green roof gardens are used to store around 200m3 of water. That water is used in dry periods to water the plants. The roof gardens prevent heat stress and provide an important place for flora and fauna in the middle of the city. A nature-inclusive tower that also provides nesting opportunities for various species of birds, bats and insects. Another unique feature is that the building is constructed from ready-made building elements, including the bathrooms. This saved time during construction and also provides cost savings and environmental benefits. Less waste, for example. And in addition, reducing transport movements has reduced CO2 emissions.

Hans Meurs, CEO VORM: ‘With Fibonacci, we have made a very large contribution to the ambition of the City of Amsterdam to build affordable apartments faster. A social task to which we immediately have our answer. With VORM 2050, one of VORM’s production companies, we want to bring about change in the housing market together with our partners. We think prefabrication and work to further standardise the entire process. With this, we will realise 20% more affordable apartments and go 50% faster.’

Special thanks
VORM, Stadgenoot and Rockfield thank all partners, stakeholders and the project team for their dedication to achieving this important milestone.
